Hello

My name is  Scott Morrison

DSC_1653.jpg

Hailing from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia but calling Huntsville home since 1992, I count myself very lucky to have split my life between two of the world's most beautiful places. Together with my wife, two kids and our dog Angus, I enjoy living a full life in this incredible landscape.

I have a sincere passion for everything Huntsville has to offer and I take great pride in our community. We have some of the most spectacular natural resources with our lakes, rivers and parks. We also boast amazing recreational facilities and infrastructure.

One of the biggest promises I can make is that I will be committed to making sure that we have a transparent Municipal Council that listens to the people of Huntsville. I hear it on the street every day and I see it on social media, people do not feel like they have a voice at the council table. If I'm fortunate enough to be one of the nine people around that table, you will have an ally that will take your call and listen to your needs.

I want to take my extensive experience living, working and raising a family in this amazing community and put it all to work for you.

pressing issues

While I am highlighting these concerns, there are a lot of other issues on my mind that I would like to see addressed if I'm fortunate enough to be elected. Reach out to me directly if you would like some additional information or if you want to discuss your personal concerns.

Health Care

We need to capitalize on the great work done by previous Councils and keep our efforts focused on keeping two acute care facilities in Muskoka. It's imperative to ensure that the province follows through with their promise to allocate 14 Million dollars to modernize MAHC. We also need to do everything we can to attract more doctors to practice in Huntsville.

Roads and Infrastructure

In the 2020 Roads Needs Study undertaken by Tulloch Engineering it was determined that our roads are considered to be at an 85%  level of acceptability.  I feel that we need to get that number up over 90% as soon as possible. I will also prioritize the development of a splash pad and a covered outdoor ice rink.

Active Transportation

Active transportation is so important. It is beneficial to the environment and also to the physical and mental health of our residents and tourists.  We need to spend some money on improving the safety of our active transportation networks in Huntsville. One area that needs immediate attention is adding safe bike lanes to Aspdin and Brunel roads, for the benefit of both cyclists and motorists.

Short Term Accomodations

I feel that we need to limit the number of new short-term rentals in our town.  I also think that we should limit the percentage of homes in any given neighborhood or on any given lake that can be used for short-term rentals.  Most importantly, I believe that we need to increase the level of enforcement by having by-law staff available during evenings and weekends.

Affordable Housing

ScoMo_Brochure Bckground 9x4_edited.png

Affordable housing has been used as a buzzword for too long, a lot of talk but not much action.  I have a plan to tackle this issue.  Affordable housing is much bigger than just helping to put a roof over someone's head.  It is a major contributor to mental health issues in our town as well.  If a family or single parent can barely afford rent, they probably can't afford to put their kids in sports, send them to camp or even take them to the movies, Santa's Village, and the like. It's time for action on this critical issue.

Mental Health

I believe that we have a mental health crisis in our community.  This crisis was only compounded during COVID and there are a lot of people still reeling. I believe that, as a Council, we need to do whatever we can to have a positive impact on the mental health of our residents.  I have some ideas on how to improve mental health in our community and I would also be considering mental health when I make decisions across the Council table.
